Print depicting Hannah Starkey’s ‘Pussy power’, Women’s March, London 2017, 2017

Materials: Printed on smooth coated paper stock: 250gsm.
Dimensions: 280 x 356mm

Hannah Starkey’s (b. Belfast, 1971) work is dedicated to exploring women’s lives through photography. Creating meticulously choreographed images, Starkey presents moments of quiet introspection, social interaction, and political awakening where women step outside stereotypical gender tropes frequently used in photography.

Since 2017, Starkey’s work has taken a decisive turn towards addressing political movements and representations of women’s activism. Inspired by protest marches taking place around the world, the artist began to photograph women as they took to the streets. These images depict mass-protests about the climate emergency and injustices against gender and race, as well as portraits portraying both collective and individual power.
