This drawing is an exercise in fluidity and movement which uses a ‘horizon line’ as an anchor point to depart from above and below the surface. The Source is inspired by the springs and wells which up until 1837 was Wakefield’s main source of water. Taking visual cues from the movement of water the drawing consists of fluid and watery lines, shapes, colours, and movement inspired by the life source of water and the spiritual and energetic associations with where water breaks through the crust of the earth and becomes surface water.\u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp aria-hidden=\"true\"\u003e\u003cem\u003e\"I am very pleased to collaborate on this special print edition with The Hepworth Wakefield for the School Prints project and share this drawing which has been an important part of my process in realising The Source sculpture and garden. The sales of the edition fund an engagement project with local schools.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWinner of the 2022 Turner Prize, Ryan, has produced a lithograph, \u003ci\u003eCoco Beans\u003c\/i\u003e, with a screen-printed varnish. Throughout Ryan’s career, she has revisited concepts that were also important to Barbara Hepworth. Between 1998 and 2000 Veronica Ryan was the first artist to undertake a residency at Hepworth’s Palais de Dance studio in St Ives. At the time, Hepworth’s full scale plaster prototypes that are now permanently displayed at The Hepworth Wakefield, were still housed there. In their paintings, the artist duo often explore and reflect on different moments in history in a playful way. They describe the angels as guardians of time, watching and learning from the past in order to help make the future better. The interior is typical of black British, West Indian homes, often reflecting the bright colours and warm weather of the Caribbean. Prempeh chose to zoom in on her grandma who sits in front of a backdrop of flowers in a vase. For Prempeh the image evokes a sense of ageing, slowing down and embracing the beauty of silence. At 89 Prempeh’s grandmother has lived a long life and most of it in Britain, this snippet likens her to the life cycle of flowers. As we transition from youth to old age, so does the flower.
