Man Ray 'Observatory Time: The Lovers' Scarf

  • Regular price £85.00

This summer, The Hepworth Wakefield will hold the first major exhibition to tell the
story of Surrealism in Britain through the photography of Lee Miller.

To coincide with the exhibition, The Hepworth Wakefield has worked with Beckford Silk to produce a beautiful silk crepe de chine scarf, depicting Man Ray’s Observatory Time, The Lovers (A l’Heure de l’Observatoire, les Amoureux), (1934), an artwork that was shown in the first International Surrealism Exhibition in London in 1936.

The work has been described as the quintessential Surrealist painting and features the lips of Lee Miller, Man Ray’s lover from 1929 – 1932. After they split, Man Ray used images of Lee Miller’s eyes and lips as regular motifs in his photography and paintings.

Materials: 100% silk crepe de chine with hand rolled hem.
