Rachel Jones has kindly produced the limited edition Spliced Structure for The Hepworth Wakefield to celebrate the recent acquisition of her work into the Wakefield Permanent Art Collection, housed at The Hepworth Wakefield. Spliced Structure is a 1:1 representation of an original work that was painted by Jones when she was at the Royal Academy. The edition has been printed onto aluminium backed canvas with additional screens.
The work employs the colourful expression that is characteristic of her paintings, in which she grapples with the challenges of finding visual means to convey abstract, existential concepts. The artist repeats motifs and symbols across her work to create associative, even familial, relationships between them, underscoring their kinship as part of her ongoing investigation of identity.

Rachel Jones (b.1991) lives and works in London. Her paintings are informed by her research into the depiction of Black figures in the arts from the 18thto the present. Through painting and abstraction, she reworks these historic representations in order to challenge how they uphold existing power structures. Working in painting, installation, sound and performance, Rachel Jones explores a sense of self as a visual, visceral experience. Recent exhibitions include SMIIILLLLEEEE (2021) at Thaddaeus Ropac, London and say cheeeeese (2022) at Chisenhale Gallery. Alongside The Hepworth Wakefield, her work is held in collections ofTate, Arts Council England, the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston and the Institute of Contemporary Art, Miami.
